REVIEWERS' COMMENTS
This book tells the story of a woman's struggle to have her children who suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder treated by the medical establishment. It is a heart-warming read, written with real literary flair – a great story.

As clinicians, we should read this book and understand how AD/HD affects family life. Indeed, anyone who is interested in history will benefit from reading this book. It tells us about human weakness and strength, as well as the importance of staying hopeful and being courageous enough to do something to improve the current situation, though difficult and frustrating it appears to be.
Dr Ernest Luk, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Geraldine Moore has been invaluable to many families in Victoria. I feel her book will be a great resource to parents, doctors, paramedicals and educationalists. I highly recommend this book.
Dr Christopher Green. [Toddler Taming, Babies! Understanding ADHD.]
You tell a terrific story, if I may make so cold-hearted comment on all the agony you went through, and you tell it with clarity and under-statement. In some ways, it is a book about being a mother, but not in the sloppy sense that such a remark often suggests. Trainee teachers would be greatly interested in it as it gives them insight into problems they may have to face, and offers hope as well as realism.
Richard Selleck, Emeritus Professor, Monash University.
This book deals with an important and controversial subject extremely well.

During the 1990s, health professionals in Australia vigorously debated the recently defined behavioural condition known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder [ADHD]. Popular interest was fanned by sensationalised media treatments that stoked the fires of controversy. Many Australian families with children diagnosed with ADHD found themselves caught up in the maelstrom. Amidst the confusion, a family tried to find a way through.
In this new book, an Australian mother tells what it was like to be at once affected by the process of change, and at the same time, a part of it.
AN EXCERPT FROM ADHD POTATOES
"A couple of weeks later, a day came that is forever etched in my memory. I arrived at the kindergarten and knocked at the door. Instantly, Mrs Anderson opened the door and stepped outside, closing the door behind her.
" Oh, Geraldine, I don't think that you should bring Stephen to kindergarten any more. The staff here all feel that he is not settling down. He probably needs to be a bit older before he will be ready for this."
I felt desperate. What was I to do now? Mrs Anderson suggested that I try him again in six months’ time at another kindergarten, and recommended one that operated some distance from our home. She said something else that sent a chill through my body.
" We all think you should take him to a psychiatrist. There’s something wrong with him. He has some sort of problem."
With a heavy heart, I took him by the hand and left the kindergarten."
